Crunchy, sweet and packed with flavor, brittle has everything you want in an after-dinner treat. Party guests are sure to love the classic chocolaty flavor of HERSHEY'S Cocoa, melded together with HERSHEY'S Mini Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips or HEATH Toffee Bits. Even better, this recipe is customizable — experiment with almonds, walnuts and different types of candy.

Ingredients & Directions


  • 3-1⁄2 oz.
    HERSHEY'S Cocoa, Natural (Item# 63505)
  • 4 tsp.
    baking soda
  • 2 oz.
    salted butter
  • 2 lbs.
  • 16 fl. oz.
    light corn syrup
  • 8 fl. oz.
    heavy cream
  • 8 oz.
    HERSHEY'S Mini Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips, 4000 ct. (Item# 61225) or HEATH Toffee Bits, medium grind (Item# 60550)



Lightly spray one 18x26-inch full sheet pan with vegetable cooking spray. Place parchment paper on prepared pan. Stir together HERSHEY'S Cocoa and baking soda in medium bowl; add butter. Set aside.


Stir together sugar, corn syrup and heavy cream in large heavy-bottomed saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until mixture reaches 300°F on candy thermometer (Bulb of candy thermometer should not rest on bottom of saucepan.)


Remove from heat; stir in cocoa mixture. Immediately pour onto prepared pan. With wooden spoon, quickly spread and pull into 1/4-inch thickness. Immediately sprinkle with HERSHEY'S Mini Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips or HEATH Toffee Bits. Place on wire rack; cool completely. Snap into pieces; store in tightly covered container.
